Special Elections In North Carolina Under Way

Grass Roots North Carolina reminds us that not one but two special elections are now under way here in North Carolina. The first is in the 3rd District to replace the late Rep. Walter Jones Jr. who passed away in February. The second is in the 9th District which includes parts of Charlotte and was a result of the Board of Elections ordering a new election. The first was tainted by vote harvesting which is illegal in North Carolina - though not in California it seems.

The GRNC-PVF has these recommendations:

CANDIDATE RECOMMENDATIONS:
US HOUSE 3 & US HOUSE 9

US HOUSE DISTRICT 3
GRNC Political Victory Fund recommends you vote for GREG MURPHY in this Special Election, which is fast approaching. Below, under 'Voting Information,' you'll find information about early voting, which by the way, is already underway! Election Day is September 10.

US HOUSE DISTRICT 9
GRNC Political Victory Fund recommends you vote for DAN BISHOP in this Special Election, which is fast approaching. Below, under 'Voting Information,' you'll find information about early voting, which by the way, is already underway! Election Day is September 10.
"One of these crazy white nationalist guys could just roll up into a gun show right here in North Carolina and buy all the assault weapons they want."
– Dan McCready
To Dan McCready, as a gun owner you are a “crazy white nationalist” and he is trying to tell people that one can buy guns from dealers at gun shows without a background check. McCready WILL attack your rights if elected.

Your Vote is Critical
Bishop's and Murphy's opponents are far left-wingers who can be counted on to support gun control. If victorious, they will surely be hanging with the likes of declared socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other anti-gun, power-hungry leftists. If the anti-gun candidates win, you can be sure they will be coming for your guns, which is bad enough, but ultimately, you can count on them coming for ALL of your rights. In short, v
ote like your rights depend on it---because they do. And, if you've kept up with the news, you know that these statements are not hyperbole.

Please remember to call friends and family who live* in the 3rd or 9th District and remind them that
GRNC Political Victory Fund recommends a vote for GREG MURPHY in the 3rd and DAN BISHOP in the 9th on or before September 10. If you're receiving this message, and don't live in one of these districts, please remind anyone you know who does live in one of them to vote.
* The 3rd District consists of the following counties: Beaufort, Camden, Carteret,
Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Greene, Hyde, Lenoir, Jones, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank,
Perquimans, part of Pitt (Pitt is split between District 3 and District 1) and Tyrrell.
*The 9th District covers all or parts of: Mecklenburg, Union, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Robeson, Bladen, and Cumberland counties.

Voting Information
Special Election One-Stop Early Voting is underway right now and ends on September 6. Check your county's one-stop site information for specific times and locations. Election Day is Tuesday, September 10 from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Click here to find your polling place on election day, or click here to find your One-Stop Early Voting location(s). Absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day (September 10) and received by 5 PM three days after Election Day (if by mail). Click here to check your voter registration.

Same-day voter registration: One-stop absentee voting (commonly known as "early voting") allows any registered voter to cast an absentee ballot in person on select days prior to Election Day. In 2019, Special Election one-stop voting is happening right now, and it ends on Friday, September 6.
Unlike on Election Day, when registered voters can only vote at their specific precinct location, one-stop voting allows registered voters to vote at any one-stop absentee voting site in their county, but only during the early voting dates. One-stop sites will have all the ballot styles for a given election at each site.

GRNC On Tomorrow's Election

If you have not partaken in the early voting period and are still wondering who is or isn't the pro-gun candidate in North Carolina, Grass Roots North Carolina and GRNC-PVF have a convenient way to check both their ratings and their recommendations. They also have recommendations on the six Constitutional amendments to the North Carolina Constitution as well as recommendations on the statewide judicial races. The recommendations are from GRNC-Political Victory Fund while the evaluations are from GRNC itself.

This last one is critical. Anita Earls is running as a Democrat against Justice Barbara Jackson (R-NC). She is a far-left SJW who would tip the NC Supreme Court even more to the Left and presumably anti-gun. She was the executive director of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice which should say it all. She is very well funded compared to her competitors. Moreover, don't be fooled by the R after Chris Anglin's name. He is a Democrat who only switched to siphon away votes from Justice Jackson.

I anticipate that the Republicans could very well lose their super-majority in the General Assembly meaning that they can't easily override vetoes by anti-gun Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC). Given the number of anti-gun candidates running as Democrats, the era of pro-gun Democrats in North Carolina seems over and any new gun rights legislation will have a hard time passing and getting signed by the governor.

Evaluations vs. Recommendations
Candidate Evaluations differ from Recommendations. While
GRNC–PVF recommendations are analytical and therefore subject to interpretation, the evaluations are intended to provide an objective measure of where candidates stand on Second Amendment issues. Candidate recommendations, which are more limited than blanket “endorsements,” are not made in all races, only in races where a clear pro-gun candidate stands out or where strategic voting is necessary to keep anti-gun candidates out of office.

GRNC-PVF Primary Recommendations

Grass Roots North Carolina - Political Victory Fund doesn't make endorsements. Rather they make recommendations which are more limited than endorsements. Moreover, as they note, they are more subjective than their candidate evaluations.

Here are the 2018 recommendations released earlier this week which include an explanation as to why they made the recommendation for a particular candidate.

(Listings include only districts with primary races)

Errata: A note on the front of some GRNC-PVF postcard election alerts incorrectly listed the last day for early voting as May 4. The last day for early voting is actually May 5.

Candidate recommendations versus evaluations: Below are recommendations for effective voting strategies by the Grass Roots North Carolina Political Victory Fund. Candidate recommendations, which are more limited than blanket “endorsements,” are not made in all races, only in races where a clear pro-gun candidate stands out or where strategic voting is necessary to keep anti-gun candidates out of office.

Recommendations differ from GRNC candidate evaluations. While the evaluations are intended to provide an objective measure of where candidates stand on Second Amendment issues, GRNC–PVF recommendations are analytical and therefore subject to interpretation. For a full explanation of GRNC’s objective star evaluations, go to:https://www.grnc.org/remember-in-november/grnc-candidate-evaluations-2018

Important note: Candidates who lack voting records or other history on Second Amendment issues and who fail to return GRNC’s candidate survey automatically receive a zero star evaluation (0) on the assumption that they are hiding their position from gun voters. Every election year, we receive complaints about ostensibly pro-gun candidates who receive zero star evaluations due to failure to return the survey. Each candidate is mailed a survey to the address he or she registered with the State Board of Elections. If they fail to return the survey, we cannot help candidates who will not help themselves.

Voting instructions: Primary election One Stop Early Voting begins on April 19 and ends on May 5. Absentee ballots must be received by 5:00 PM on May 1. Primary voting day is May 8 between 6:30 AM and 7:30 PMClick here to find your polling place on election day, or click here to find your One Stop Early Voting place. To look up your voter registration, click here. Note: If you are registered as “unaffiliated,” you may vote in either the Democrat or Republican primary election.

GRNC CANDIDATE RECOMMENDATIONS
(Note: the NC State Board of Elections has made numerous changes to presentation of candidate data which now, unfortunately, contain numerous errors. We have tried to catch those errors but apologize if some of them have been allowed to propagate into GRNC evaluations.) For a full explanation of GRNC star evaluations, go to:https://www.grnc.org/remember-in-november/grnc-candidate-evaluations-2018

US HOUSE

District 2 (R): Challenger Allen Chesser scored 99% on GRNCs candidate survey, earning 4 stars (****), but incumbent George Holding has a proven track record with a 100% pro-gun voting record, including against the recent and insidious “Fix NICS” language, giving him a GRNC 4-star evaluation. GRNC-PVF recommends George Holding.

District 3 (R): With a 100% survey score and a 97% pro-gun voting average, including against the recent and insidious “Fix NICS” language, earning a GRNC four-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF continues to recommend incumbent Walter Jones over challengers Scott Dacey (***) and Phil Law (****).

District 5 (R): Dropping a vote on the insidious “Fix NICS” language recently included in the appropriations bill caused incumbent Virginia Foxx to drop from 4 to 3 stars (***). With reluctance, GRNC-PVF recommends challenger Dillon Gentry, whose 94% survey earned him 4 stars (****).

District 6 (R): Although incumbent Mark Walker doesn’t have a primary, he deserves accolades for standing strong against gun control by voting against “Fix NICS.” With a continued 4-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF recommends Mark Walker.

District 7 (R): Although incumbent David Rouzer doesn’t have a primary, he deserves accolades for standing strong against gun control by voting against “Fix NICS.” With a continued 4-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF recommends David Rouzer.

District 8 (R): Although incumbent Richard Hudson doesn’t have a primary, we encourage voters to call him and ask why he voted for “Fix NICS.” Despite his sponsorship for national concealed handgun reciprocity, which passed the House, his vote for Fix NICS brought his voting record to only 50%, earning him only a GRNC 2-star (**) evaluation.

District 9 (R): Due to his previously good voting record, GRNC-PVF previously supported incumbent Robert Pittenger despite his having drawn fire from some conservative quarters. Like so many other politicians who “forget who brung ‘em to the dance,” however, Pittenger this year voted for the insidious Fix NICS language. By contrast, challenger Mark Harris not only scored 99% on GRNC’s candidate survey, earning 4 stars (****), but also promises to sponsor pro-gun legislation in Congress. For US House, District 9, GRNC-PVF recommends Mark Harris.

District 10 (R): Congressman Patrick McHenry has been a friend of gun owners ever since his service in the NC House, including his effort to ensure passage of a clean concealed handgun reciprocity bill. Therefore, we are deeply concerned that for the first time, Rep. McHenry dropped a vote on Fix NICS, reducing his GRNC evaluation to 3 stars (***). Owing to his long history of service to gun owners, GRNC-PVF continues to recommend Patrick McHenry, but notes that with a primary featuring three challengers, including pro-gun Jeff Gregory (survey: 98%, GRNC ****), Congressman McHenry needs to avoid the inherently corrupting influences of incumbency.

District 11 (R): Incumbent Congressman Mark Meadows was one of the patriots who had the courage to vote against Fix NICS. With a perfect 100% pro-gun voting record and a perfect 100% survey, Meadows is the clear choice for gun owners. GRNC-PVF recommends Mark Meadows.

District 12 (R): With a perfect 100% survey, GRNC-PVF recommends Paul Bonham for the Republican primary.

District 13 (R): Like Mark Meadows, legislators don’t come more pro-gun than incumbent Rep. Ted Budd (100% vote record, 100% survey, GRNC ****). Although Budd doesn’t have a primary, he deserves accolades for bucking leadership to vote against Fix NICS. GRNC-PVF recommends Ted Budd.

NC SENATE

District 02 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends Norman Sanderson (100% voting record, 90% survey, GRNC ****) over Lisa Oakley (survey NR, 0-star).

District 25 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends Tom McInnis (100% voting record, 96% survey, GRNC ****) over Michelle Lexo (survey NR, 0-star).

District 29 (R): For this open seat, GRNC-PVF recommends Eddie Gallimore (93% survey, GRNC ****) over anti-gun Sam Watford (GRNC *) who, in the NC House, had only a 60% voting record and had to be forcefully convinced not to offer weakening amendments to pro-gun legislation. Watford is no friend of gun owners. Vote Gallimore for NC Senate.

District 31 (R): In this combined district requiring a face-off between incumbents, GRNC-PVF recommends you vote for Joyce Krawiec(100% voting record, 99% survey, GRNC ****) over Dan Barrett (NR, 0-star) and Peter Antinozzi (NR, 0-star).

District 33 (R): For this open seat, GRNC-PVF recommends Carl Ford(GRNC ****) due to his proven 100% voting record and 100% bill sponsorship in the NC House, and his 98% survey, over unproven challenger Bill Sorenson (survey 98%, ****).

District 34 (R): For this open seat, GRNC-PVF recommends Bill Howell (96% survey, GRNC ****) or Vickie Sawyer (96% survey, GRNC ****)  over former NC Senator Bob Rucho (100% voting record, 79% survey, ****) due to Rucho’s long history of antagonism toward gun owners and his work to weaken gun bills while in leadership.

District 39 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends Dan Bishop (94% voting record, 88% survey) over Beth Monaghan (survey NR, 0-star).

District 42 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends Mark Hollo (voting record 100%, survey 99%, GRNC ****) over incumbent Andy Wells (voting record 100%, survey NR). Although Wells votes right, he has refused to complete GRNC’s candidate survey. Meanwhile, while in the NC House, Hollo was a leader for gun rights supporters, including sponsoring pro-gun legislation. Challenger Ryan Huffman refused to answer GRNC’s survey, earning a 0-star evaluation, while Dustin Long submitted a 91% survey (****) but is untested. Vote Hollo for NC Senate.

District 44 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent David Curtis(voting record 100%, survey 100%, GRNC ****) over challengers David Curtis (survey NR, 0-star) and Martin Oakes (survey-NR, 0-star).

NC HOUSE

District 1 (R): For this open seat, GRNC-PVF recommends Edward Goodwin (survey 93%, GRNC ****) over Candice Hunter (survey-NR, 0-star).

District 3 (R): Scoring an perfect 100% on GRNC’s candidate survey and a recent pro-gun voting record of 96%, plus sponsoring pro-gun bills, GRNC-PVF recommends Michael Speciale (GRNC ****).

District 4 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends Jimmy Dixon (voting record 96%, survey 100%) over Nathan Ray Riggs (survey-NR, 0-star).

District 6 (R): With a strong voting record and history of sponsoring pro-gun bills, GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Beverly Boswell(voting record 100%, survey 92%, GRNC ****) over challenger Bobby Hanig (survey 95%, ****).

District 7 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends Glen Bradley (voting record 100%, survey 100%, GRNC ****) over Lisa Stone Barnes (survey-NR, 0-star). In previous terms in the NC House, Bradley not only garnered a 100% pro-gun voting record, but also sponsored pro-gun legislation.Vote Bradley for NC House.

District 14 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent George Cleveland (voting record 100%, survey 100%, GRNC ****) over challenger Joseph R. McLaughlin (survey-NR, 0-star).

District 17 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends challenger Pat Sykes(survey 100%, GRNC ***) over anti-gun incumbent Frank Iler (***). In recent years, Iler has repeatedly voted against the interests of gun owners, including voting against the expansion of concealed carry and other reforms contained in HB 746. Iler is no friend of gun owners. Vote Sykes for NC House.

District 19 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends challenger Hunter Ford whose perfect 100% survey earned him GRNC's highest 4-* (****) over anti-gun incumbent Ted Davis (GRNC **). Davis has repeatedly voted against the interests of gun owners and is among the most anti-gun Republicans in the legislature. Vote Hunter Ford for NC House.
District 35 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends challenger Isaac Burke(survey 100%, GRNC ****) over incumbent Chris Malone (voting record 75%, **). Malone frequently votes against gun owners, demonstrating clear antagonism toward the right to arms. Vote Isaac Burke.

District 44 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends Peter Petsche (survey 99%, GRNC ****) over Linda Devore (survey NR, 0-star).

District 48(R): GRNC-PVF recommends Russell Walker (survey 100%, GRNC ****) over John Imbaratto (survey 80%, ***).

District 52 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Jamie Boles(voting record 94%, survey 90%, GRNC ****) over challenger Ken Byrd (survey 63%, *).

District 59 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends challenger Mark McDaniel(voting record 100%, survey 97%, GRNC ****) over incumbent John Hardister (voting record 98%, survey-NR, ****). Although Hardister is a solid candidate, McDaniel distinguishes himself as a gun rights leader who in previous service in the NC Senate helped ensure passage of concealed carry and sponsored numerous pro-gun bills and amendments. McDaniel will be a gun rights leader in the House.

District 67 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Justin Burr(voting record 96%, survey 96%, GRNC ****) over untested challenger Wayne Sasser (survey 90%, ****).

District 79 (R): For this open seat, GRNC-PVF recommends Keith Kidwell (survey 100%, GRNC ****) over Jim Chesnutt (survey-NR, 0-star).

District 81 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Larry Potts(voting record 100%, survey 96%, GRNC ****) over challenger Eric Osborne (survey 66%, *).

District 83 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Larry Pittman(voting record 95%, survey 92%, GRNC ****) over challenger Michael Anderson (survey-NR, 0-star). Pittman is a true gun rights leader, regularly sponsoring pro-gun legislation and amendments, and sticking his neck out for gun owners. Vote Pittman for NC House.

District 90 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Sarah Stevens (voting record 92%, survey 75%, GRNC ****) over challenger Allen Poindexter (survey-NR, 0-star).

District 93 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Jonathan Jordon (voting record 98%, survey 93%, GRNC ****) over challenger Robert Block (survey-NR, 0-star).

District 96 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Jay Adams (voting record 100%, survey 97%, GRNC ****) over untested challenger Taylor Huffman (survey-99%, ****). Adams is a leader for gun rights, sponsoring numerous pro-gun bills. Vote Adams for NC House.

District 97 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Jason Saine (voting record 100%, survey 100%, GRNC ****) over untested challenger Nic Haag (survey-99%, ****).

District 110 (R): GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent Kelly Hastings (voting record 98%, survey 100%, GRNC ****) over untested challenger Charlene High (survey-NR%, 0-star).  Hastings was one of the sponsors for Castle Doctrine & Stand Your Ground legislation.

Early Voting Opens In North Carolina Today

Early voting opens in North Carolina today. In Buncombe County where I live, it starts at 10am and runs to 6pm. Times in other counties may differ. The one-stop early voting runs until Saturday, November 5th. You can check the North Carolina State Board of Elections for which district you live in, links to your county elections board, and more.

In time for this, GRNC-PVF has released their recommendations of candidates for the office of President and on down. It is part of their Remember in November project. You will notice that they give recommendations and not endorsements. Recommendations are based upon their evaluation of which candidate would be better on gun rights issues.

2016 GRNC-PVF General Election
Candidate Recommendations

The 2016 election is a referendum not only on the Second Amendment, but on diametrically opposed plans for the future of our Republic. Key to the outcome of that election is North Carolina, which is now regarded as a hotly contested “battleground state.” Translated, the future of our Republic is now in your hands. If you fail to vote, if you fail to bring like-minded people to the polls, Hillary Clinton’s nomination of the next Supreme Court justice will be, quite literally, your fault.

For a full explanation of GRNC’s objective star evaluations, go to: http://www.grnc.org/remember-in-november/grnc-candidate-evaluations-2016

Voting instructions: General election One Stop Early Voting begins on October 20 and ends on November 5 at 1:00 PM. Absentee ballots must be received by 5:00 PM on November 8. Election day is November 8 between 6:30 AM and 7:30 PM. Click here to find your polling place on election day, or click here to find your One Stop Early Voting place.

Important changes to voting laws: Due to ongoing litigation, same-day registration will still be permitted during One Stop Early Voting. Straight party voting is no longer permitted, so GRNC strongly suggests you investigate individual candidates. Please click here to find out about identification requirements.

GRNC CANDIDATE RECOMMENDATIONS

Key to listings: Included in listings below are scores on GRNC’s candidate survey, pro-gun voting percentage, and GRNC star evaluation (0-star, *, **, ***, or ****, depending on how closely a candidate can be expected to agree with a control group of conservative gun owners). “NR” means the candidate failed to return GRNC’s survey which, for candidates without voting records, gives the candidate a 0-star (0) evaluation.

US PRESIDENT

Thanks to his change in position on key Second Amendment issues, DONALD TRUMP now holds a GRNC 3-star (***) evaluation. He may or may not be your first choice, but make no mistake: The election of Hillary Clinton to POTUS absolutely will allow her to make at least one (and probably more than one) Supreme Court appointment – this from a candidate who is on record as saying the SCOTUS decisions affirming an individual right to arms are “wrong.” Without doubt, such a Clinton Supreme Court would reverse both the Heller and McDonald decisions and pave the way for massive gun bans. Beyond Clinton’s fundamental and pervasive corruption, she is on record as supporting semi-auto bans, universal gun registration (a/k/a/ “universal background checks”), and Australia-style gun confiscation. If Democrats also gain control of the US Senate (see below), the Senate Majority Leader will be Sen. Charles Schumer – a dedicated, long-term opponent of gun rights. Do not for a moment think you can “sit this one out” simply because you don’t like either candidate. It is your duty to keep Hillary Clinton out of the Oval Office.

US SENATE

In this closely contested race which could be key to control of the US Senate, GRNC-PVF recommends Republican RICHARD BURR. With a 91%* pro-gun voting record, Burr holds GRNC’s highest 4-star (****) evaluation. Opponent Deborah Ross has a long history of antagonism toward both gun rights and traditional American values. Beyond her abysmal 21% voting record, as NC House Judiciary Chair, Ross was responsible for killing one of GRNC’s first Castle Doctrine bills, despite the fact that it had cleared the Senate and was sponsored by a fellow Democrat. In fairness, with a 94% survey, Libertarian Sean Haugh also earned a GRNC 4-star evaluation. Because he will likely garner less than 5% of the vote, however, a vote for Haugh is a vote to put anti-gun Deborah Ross in the Senate and to potentially give Hillary Clinton the votes needed to pass gun control.

US HOUSE

District 1: With only a 33% voting record, incumbent GK Butterfield earned only GRNC’s lowest 0-star evaluation. Unfortunately, Republican challenger H. Powell Dew, Jr. failed to return GRNC’s survey, also earning a 0-star evaluation. GRNC-PVF recommends Libertarian J. J. SUMMERELL (survey 95%, GRNC ****).

District 2: GRNC-PVF recommends Republican GEORGE HOLDING. Holding scored 95% on GRNC’s survey, earning four stars (****), while challenger John McNeil refused to return the survey, netting a 0-star evaluation.

District 3: With a 100% survey score and a 97% pro-gun voting average, earning a GRNC four-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF continues to recommend incumbent WALTER JONES. Challenger Ernest Reeves refused to return the survey, netting a 0-star evaluation.

District 4: Against longtime anti-gun Democrat David Price (0% voting record, GRNC 0), GRNC–PVF recommends SUE GOOGE, who returned GRNC’s candidate survey with a score of 81%, earning three stars (***).

District 5: With a 100% GRNC survey score and 100% pro-gun voting record earning GRNC’s highest four-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF continues to recommend incumbent VIRGINIA FOXX over Democrat challenger Josh Brannon, who refused to return GRNC’s survey, netting a 0-star evaluation.

District 6: Although the US House has not had any gun votes in the 114th Congress, on the basis of his 99% survey score and GRNC four-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF recommends MARK WALKER over Democrat challenger Pete Glidewell, who refused to return GRNC’s survey, netting a 0-star evaluation.

District 7: Due to his 100% pro-gun voting record, earning GRNC’s four-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF recommends DAVID ROUZER over Libertarian challenger J. Wesley Casteen (82% survey, ***).

District 8: Although the US House has not had any gun votes in the 14th Congress, on the basis of his 100% survey score and GRNC four-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF recommends RICHARD HUDSON over Democrat challenger Thomas Mills, who refused to return GRNC’s survey, netting a 0-star evaluation.

District 9: Due to his 100% pro-gun voting record, earning GRNC’s four-star (****) evaluation, GRNC–PVF recommends ROBERT PITTENGER over Democrat challenger Christian Cano, who refused to return GRNC’s survey, netting a 0-star evaluation.

District 10: With a 98% GRNC survey score and 100% pro-gun voting record earning GRNC’s highest four-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF continues to recommend long term gun rights supporter PATRICK McHENRY over Democrat challenger Andy Millard, who refused to return GRNC’s survey, netting a 0-star evaluation.

District 11: Although the US House has not had any gun votes in the 14th Congress, on the basis of his 100% survey score, leadership in defending gun owners against federal abuses, and GRNC four-star evaluation (****), GRNC–PVF recommends MARK MEADOWS over Democrat challenger Rick Bryson, who refused to return GRNC’s survey, netting a 0-star evaluation.

District 12: Against longtime anti-gun Democrat Alma Adams (11% voting record, GRNC 0), GRNC–PVF recommends LEON THREATT, who returned GRNC’s candidate survey with a score of 85%, earning three stars (***).

District 13: This district represents a rare opportunity for gun owners to elect a gun rights supporter who has not only talked the talk, but walked the walk. GRNC-PVF strongly recommends Republican TED BUDD (survey 100%, GRNC **) over Democrat Bruce Davis (survey: NR, GRNC 0). Beyond running for Congress, Budd owns a gun shop. Frankly, we should have recommended him in the Republican primary election, but underestimated his ability to beat no fewer than 16 Republican challengers.

STATEWIDE RACES

North Carolina Governor: In this critical and tightly contested race, GRNC-PVF recommends PAT McCRORY (GRNC ***) over longtime anti-gun Democrat Roy Cooper (58% voting record, GRNC 0). Having, in years past, killed pro-gun legislation as NC Senate Judiciary Chairman, Cooper will most certainly veto any pro-gun legislation GRNC could get passed by the legislature. Although Libertarian Lon Cecil scored 99% on GRNC’s survey, earning four stars (****), he will draw only a few percent of the vote, potentially helping Cooper get elected. Cooper must be kept out of the governor’s mansion at all costs.

North Carolina Lt. Governor: GRNC-PVF recommends incumbent DAN FOREST, who scored 95% on GRNC’s survey, earning four stars (****). Challenger Leslie Coleman, during her tenure in the NC Senate, voted with gun owners only 67% of the time, earning a low one-star (*) evaluation.

North Carolina Treasurer: GRNC-PVF recommends DALE FOLWELL (****) who earned a perfect 100% pro-gun voting record while in the NC House.

North Carolina Attorney General: For the open seat vacated by Roy Cooper, GRNC – PVF recommends BUCK NEWTON for Attorney General. In the NC Senate, Newton has been a leader for gun rights, cementing passage of three omnibus pro-gun bills. With his 100% survey score and 100% pro-gun voting record, Newton earned GRNC’s highest (****) four-star evaluation. By contrast, Newton’s opponent, anti-gun Sen. Josh Stein voted with gun owners only 38% of the time, netting him a 0-star evaluation.

Judicial races: GRNC-PVF recommends you vote for all of the following:

BOB EDMUNDS for NC Supreme Court
PHIL BERGER, JR. for Court of Appeals (Stephens seat)
RICHARD DIETZ for Court of Appeals (Dietz seat)
BOB HUNTER for Court of Appeals (Hunter seat)
HUNTER MURPHY Court of Appeals (Geer seat)

GRNC-PVF TweaksThe Blue Noses (Updated)

blue·nose
ˈblo͞onōz/
noun
informal
plural noun: blue-noses
  1. 1.
    US
    a priggish or puritanical person.
    "the most restrictive, bluenose standards"
  2. 2.
    a person from Nova Scotia.

Grass Roots North Carolina - Political Victory Fund is holding a fund-raising raffle to support its efforts to defeat anti-gun candidates in the November election. The winner gets a Palmetto State Armory M-4 configured AR-15, 1,000 rounds of high quality ammunition, AND a free portrait of Hillary Clinton. Tickets are $10 each, 3/$25, 7/$50 or 15/$100.

GRNC-PVF says of the Clinton portrait, "Of course, we won’t tell you what to do with the photo, but when we ran a picture of Hillary on the front of our newsletter, we heard it was very popular at the range." They note that if Hillary is elected on November 8th, panic buying will go into full swing on November 9th.

As you can imagine, the blue noses in the media are wailing and gnashing their teeth over this raffle.

CBS News ran a short feature on the raffle.

As to NC Policy Watch, which bills itself as the "the progressive pulse" and who suggests North Carolina legislators should emulate the recent California "gunpocalypse", they said:
In the name of all that is decent in our country, the terribly troubled souls behind this need to take it down immediately and apologize as well. What’s more, Donald Trump, Gov. Pat McCrory, Senator Richard Burr, Sen. Buck Newton and all other conservative politicians who have attempted to make gun ownership an issue in their campaigns should disavow the group ASAP.
In an update, WRAL-TV Raleigh ran GRNC President Paul Valone's response as well as the response from the executive director of Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC.
Paul Valone, president of Grass Roots NC, tells WRAL News that ticket sales are coming in "briskly." He said attention the group has received over the past 24 hours from writers for national media outlets who perceive the fundraiser as an implicit threat against Clinton is unwarranted.

"No reasonable person with a basic understanding of the English language could possible construe any sort of threat or encouragement from that basic message," Valone said Thursday.

Meanwhile, Peter Ambler, executive director of Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC, which was formed by former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, said the raffle is ill-conceived.

"This dangerous stunt just further degrades the debate on gun safety that our country needs," Ambler said in an email. "North Carolina voters and law-abiding gun owners everywhere deserve a lot better."
If I didn't know better I'd say Paul Valone has been reading Alinsky's Rules for Radicals. This raffle is right out of Rule No. 6 - “A good tactic is one your people enjoy." The hyperbole from the other side is right up there with the suggestion that Donald Trump wants Hillary Clinton assassinated because he suggested she go without armed protection like the average citizen.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some raffle tickets to buy.

UPDATE: It looks like this story is starting to go viral...as are ticket sales. According to Sean Sorrentino on Facebook, the GRNC server is in meltdown status from all the ticket orders.
