The Ithaca Auto & Burglar Shotgun

I had heard Michael Bane make reference to the Ithaca Auto & Burglar shotgun pistol but had never seen one. Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons shows two examples of these any other weapons that are up for auction at Rock Island Auctions.

While these would have been a beast to handle in 12 gauge, in the lesser gauges like 20 or 28, I think they'd still provide more than adequate protection against highwaymen and carjackers.

  1. A pair of those, Josh Randall's 'mare's leg' and a bandolier completes the ensemble.

  2. When I was stationed in Thailand I was introduced to the "Thai Buffalo" or "Kwai Thai." It's a single-shot 12-gauge pistol. They're all made by individual craftsmen as a cottage industry. As a result they're similar but not all identical. I was involved in a project with the Bangkok police department. When the project was finished, my police counterpart took me into a room at police Hq. that had dozens of the guns on shelves, all confiscated from criminals. He gave me one, then showed me a scar on his had from when he had test-fired one. I took that as a warning never to fire mine. I haven't. When I returned to the USA I had a gunsmith "de-mil" the thing. It's now a souvenir.
