Steyr L-Series Pistol

I have always been intrigued by the Steyr pistols due to their low bore axis as well as their fairly smooth - for a striker-fired pistol - triggers. They have now launched the new L Series which is a full size service pistol available in 9mm and .40 S&W.

In the video below from Tactical Life, you can see some of the details of this new pistol. The only thing that I object to is the keyed lock on the slide. Checking the M and S Series, I see they both have it. It seems to me to be superfluous and just one more thing to break.

2013 SHOT Show - Day 3 With Michael Bane & Ed Head

I know the SHOT Show was over last week but I just came across this report from day three by Michael Bane and Ed Head. They discuss AR pistols, Nightforce scopes, the Ruger Bearcat Shopkeeper revolver in .22LR, and the growth in reloading sales. Ed Head was saying that the manufacturers he spoke with had a 50 to 80% increase in sales. With the ammo shortage, reloading is coming back strongly as an option as well as practicing with .22s.

2013 SHOT Show - Day Three With Gunblast.Com

Jeff Quinn is back for the third and final day of the 2013 SHOT Show. He starts off his report with an interview with Mike Fifer, CEO of Ruger, who explains their fast and easy way to contact your representatives to say no new gun control. I think Ruger needs to be applauded for taking this stand. So far over 500,000 people have taken advantage of this tool in less than a week. Fifer is correct that we need to get this up to 20 million or more.

Jeff also profiles the UTS-15 bullpup shotgun, the Sig 227, sights from XS Sights, a carbon fiber AR from Windham, some Ruger exclusives from Lipsey's, and Smith and Wesson Performance Center pistols.

New Introductions From Ruger

Ed Head of Gunsite Academy and Downrange TV discusses the new firearms introduced by Sturm, Ruger for 2013. They include the SR1911 in Commander length, the LC390, new variants of the Scout Rifle, the Ruger Guide Rifle, and a number of .22 LR pistols.

New Introductions From Mossberg

When I read the release last week on the new youth/compact models of the Mossberg 500 and Maverick 88 in 20 gauge, I was very interested. I had been looking for a home defense shotgun in 20 gauge for the Complementary Spouse.

Ed Head interviews Linda Powell of Mossberg about their new introductions which includes the shotguns above as well as their MVP rifle in both Flex and patrol versions. I think they will be going head to head with Ruger when the MVP is released later this year in .308 Winchester.

2013 SHOT Show - Day Two With Michael Bane And Ed Head

Michael Bane and Ed Head return to report on day two of the 2013 SHOT Show for the Outdoor Channel. Among the firearms discussed are the Armscor MIG-22 which is an AR clone in .22 LR and the Beretta Nano which will be coming out with various colored frames.

They both agreed that the overriding theme of this year's SHOT Show was fear. That is, the fear of what would be coming out of Washington. However, after Obama made his speech yesterday, they sensed a rise in optimism along with a sigh of relief.

Some SHOT Shows feature a lot of new innovative product introductions. This isn't one of them. Ed said the industry seems to be on an even keep with nothing really different. It was more about introducing different colors, sizes, and styles of existing products. Both Ed and Michael agreed that there seems to be a renewed interest in reloading all of a sudden which they attribute to the ammo shortage and proposals coming out of Washington. They will cover this in more depth tomorrow.

2013 SHOT Show - Day 2 With Gunblast.Com

Jeff Quinn of Gunblast.Com is back for day two of the SHOT Show with more firearms, knives, and accessories. It was interesting to see the Caracal 9mm carbine as I had heard about it on the GunDudes mini-podcast from the show.

One of the manufacturers interviewed was Newtown Firearms of Placerville, California. You have to wonder how much grief they have been getting from the gun prohibitionists over their company name.

Undercover Feds At SHOT Show?

In today's The Outdoor Wire, there was a report that undercover Federal agents from BATFE, the FBI, and the USAF Office of Special Investigations were spread out amongst the crowds at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas. They were leaving cards that said to "report suspicious activity".

As the industry poises for the Obama administration, word spread through SHOT Show that undercover agents supposedly from a variety of different agencies, from ATF to OSI, were wandering around the show floor, passing out business cards that bore an official-looking seal and the words "Suspicious Activity Reporting: 702-690-9142"

Curious, one industry insider called the number. After several rings, a recorded message thanked him for reporting the suspicious activity, and asked for a callback number. Instead, he hung up. Only a few minutes later, their cellphone rang and a caller identified himself as an FBI agent following up on the "suspicious activity report".

When questioned about the supposed federal agents wandering the floor, the caller said that despite the fact that OSI was a military agency, breaches of security when it came to the "kinds of equipment displayed at SHOT Show" gave them full domestic arrest powers.

Many attendees at the SHOW have received these cards, raising questions of the legitimacy of the supposed agents and the possibility that SHOT was under far closer federal scrutiny than normal.

This report doesn't leave me feeling warm and fuzzy about President Obama's claims that responsible gun owners have nothing to worry about from him.

2013 SHOT Show - Day 1 With Gunblast.Com

Jeff Quinn of Gunblast.com is one of my staples for seeing what is going on at the SHOT Show. This year is no different. On the first day of SHOT, he interviews representatives from Tactical Solutions, Savage, Barrett, and Para-USA among others.

That suppressed Barrett in .50 BMG is sure to have the state-run media aka the mainstream media sputtering with false outrage.

Michael Bane is covering the 2013 SHOT Show for the Outdoor Channel along with his friend Ed Head of Gunsite Academy. Among the firearms they discussed were the Sig Sauer MPX, the new Ruger Guide Rifle in .375 RM, the Rock Island 1911 in .22 TCM, and the Smith and Wesson M&P 10 which is an AR in .308. They did notice a trend of a lot of red dots being made for handguns along the ammo shortage.

GunBlast.Com At 2013 SHOT Media Day
