A reader reported that he got this from Symantec's Norton Antivirus when visiting my blog.
The reader also reported that he got this when visiting John Lott's blog.
I must say I'm a bit disconcerted about this. It is not like I'm paranoid or anything but I wonder if this is a new thing aimed at either conservatives or gun bloggers. If you follow Twitter, you know that there has been a campaign to report certain conservative Twitter users such as Dana Loesch's husband Chris as a spammer in an effort to block them.
ADDENDUM: If you use a Norton product and you are getting the fraud warning, please let me know at jpr9954 AT gmail dot com. I'd like to keep track of this. If you are getting this from any other product, please try and capture a screen shot of it.
UPDATE: This gets weirder and weirder. I just ran the blog URL through Symantec's SafeWeb and it reports "OK". Laura below who uses Norton products is having no problems.

I saw it on Lawrence Rowe's page as well. We've been targeted for denial.
ReplyDeleteNo problems here, and had no problems the other day on Mr. Lotts page. But then 'I' don't use Norton for a reason. It seems to be the worst of the lot when it comes to protection.
ReplyDeleteComing clear here in Miami
ReplyDelete@Johnnyreb: I don't use it either and haven't for a number of years. Avast seems to work OK for me and its free.
ReplyDelete@slowfacts: I'm wondering about that.
Symantec user here (Symantec = Norton), and I can still visit the page.
ReplyDeleteNorton does not like Blogspot, folks.
ReplyDeleteI got this when going to The Truth About Guns the other day. Only happened once...
ReplyDeleteI use Norton with Firefox on Windows machine.
ReplyDeleteSeems OK to me!!
Using Norton Antivirus on two computers here. No problem accessing either you or John Lott.
ReplyDeleteNo problem here, not using Norton, so both sites work fine...
ReplyDeleteNo problems here, and using Apple machines (macbooks, iMac G5, PowerBookG4) and no anti-gun, er anti-VIRUS software.

It's a random false positive. If you really think "this is a new thing aimed at either conservatives or gun bloggers" then you probably are paranoid.
ReplyDeleteHaven't had the referenced problem but of late I have been getting a popup that says "authentication required for sitemeter" with a request for ID and password. I cancel it and things go on as normal. Someone trying to hack my non-existent blog? Someone trying to suppress your traffic count? Happens on your site plus some others. I don't use Norton.
ReplyDeleteNice Info! That is why all Norton antivirus software problems have to be addressed urgently. If these issues are not taken care of as soon as possible, the risk component enhance manifold.
